Are your sitters insured?

Yes, Big White Sitters holds a comprehensive insurance policy and provides Work Safe BC coverage for all sitters

Will my sitter do chores if I need them to?

Your sitters' primary role is to care for your children. This includes playstime, preparing meals, changing diapers, putting them to bed, etc. Your sitter will also tidy up from the activities they engage your children in during the service. Anything extra is as time permits and at the discretion of the sitter

When are your sitters available?

We provide sitting services starting at 8 am until late as required, as individual sitter availability permits. We can even do early morning and overnight sitting as a special request, ask us about it!

Can I hire your sitters privately?

It is a violation of our sitters contractual agreement with Big White Sitters to work with our clients outside of the Big White Sitters service platform

Do you have male sitters?

Yes we do. We are an equal opportunity service provider. No matter your sitters gender, you can always expect a qualified, vetted, and checked sitter to care for your child(ren)

How can I contact my sitter?

Our sitters are provided with your contact details at the time of scheduling. You can request your sitters contact details from them directly when they arrive at your location. Until then, you can email us for any assistance


Why should I choose Big White Sitters over other service providers?

Do sitters bring stuff for the kids to do?

No, however, Big White Sitters can offer toy rentals during your vacation. Ask us about it!

Will sitters take my kids outside to play?

Absolutely! Our sitters are happy to take the kids outdoors. Snow angels in fresh powder, strolls through the village, gondola rides, saturday night fireworks, a warm beverage and story time in the kids corner at the local cafe... it's all part of the fun. Just let us know how we can delight your children and add to the magic of their Big White vacation!

Will sitters take my kids skiing?

Activities with a higher risk of injury such as skiing are best enjoyed with parents or qualified staff through Big White Ski Resort. All other activities are options and parents will need to pre-sign any waiver forms required and provide the sitter with the cash to cover the cost of the activity for the sitter and the kids

Do you babysit newborns?

We love babies! We provide sitters for all ages of children

Do you have any sitters to care for my child with special needs?

We may be able to provide you with a caregiver with specific training in the area of your child's special requirements. Ask us in advance and we will do our best to accomodate you

What happens if my child gets injured or falls ill in your care?

We will contact you right away while we provide appropriate basic treatment for your child. If it is an emergency situation, we will contact 911 emergency services first, and then contact you. Our sitters will not administer medicine to your child unless it is prescribed to them and in it's original packaging, in which case, we will follow the instructions and dosage as indicated. Be sure to note important medical details when you book


Can I get the same sitter every time I book?

We do our best to fulfill same sitter requests but it may not always be possible. Sitter assignment is completely dependent on each sitters personal availability. Most of our sitters have regular jobs, which limits the time they are available to babysit

Can I request a sitter?

Absolutely! You can request your favorite sitter in the booking details you provide us and if that sitter is available, they will be assigned to you. If they are not, we will assign another one of our fabulous sitters. Then, you will have two favorites to choose from!

What happens if I stay out later than I planned?

Generally, it is not a problem to stay out later than you originally scheduled but always check with your sitter first to ensure they don't have other plans

How do I pay for my service?

We take your credit card details at the time of booking and then charge your card after the service has been completed

Do I need to tip my sitter?

Tipping is customary in Canada for hospitality service workers, and it is really appreciated, but not mandatory. Tipping is generally 10-20% of the total service price, which you can pay your sitter in cash at the end of your service

Help! My sitter hasn't arrived, what do I do?

If your sitter has not called you, check your email for a message from your sitter or Big White Sitters. If you have an international phone number your sitter may not be able to call you and has emailed you instead. Most likely, your sitter is having difficulty finding your location or accessing your building if you are staying in a hotel, condo, or a location with multiple buildings and entrances. If there is not a message in your inbox or junk mail, contact us by email at bigwhitesitters@gmail.com right away and we will help locate your sitter

The booking calendar isn't showing the time I want. Can I still book?

If the calendar isn't showing your desired time it either means we don't have any sitters available during that timeframe, or that you are trying to create a booking that goes past midnight - which our system recognizes as a different day. You can always email us and we can double check sitter availability - we often keep one or two on-call just in case. f you wish to book past midnight, just book what the calendar will allow and let us know the actual end time you want in your booking details and we will make the adjustment and send you an updated confirmation to reflect your request

Can I book over the phone or by email?

We take all of our bookings online at www.bigwhitesitters.com so we can capture all the important details that we require to assign you a sitter. To make things easier and quicker for future bookings, create an account with your booking to save your booking details. These will automatically populate whenever you make a new booking

I can only provide an international phone number, is that okay?

Yes, that is fine but note that some sitters are unable to make international phone calls and will only be able to to text or email you. You can ask your sitter for their phone number when they arrive for your service, if you prefer

What are the maximum number of kids for one sitter?

We have a maximum limit of 5 children per sitter and a maximum limit of 2 children 0-18 months per sitter

I have an older child who doesn't need babysitting. Do I need to include them in my number of children?

If the sitter expected to know the whereabouts of the older child at any given time and if the child is expected to stay home then we consider this babysitting, regardless of age or amount of care required

What is your cancelation policy?

You can cancel your booking up to 48 hours prior to your scheduled booking for a full refund. Any cancellations within 24-48 hours of your scheduled booking we provide a refund, less a 10% service charge. Full booking charges apply for cancellations with less than 24 hours notice. Refunds are not given for any unused time

Can I get a refund if I have to cancel last minute for extenuating circumstances?

Unfortunately, we cannot offer a refund with less than 24 hours notice. While we recognize there are multitudes of unanticpated reasons our clients may need to cancel last minute, we still have a responsibility to compensate our caregivers who have scheduled that time to serve you

Can I change my booking time or date?

Yes, you can make changes to your booking with at least 24 hours notice, subject to sitter availability. Changes to bookings with less than 24 hours notice can be requested and are made solely at the discretion of Big White Sitters. You can make changes to the time, date, or intake details of your booking by clicking the link at the bottom of your booking confirmation email. If you wish to change the number of children, you will need to cancel and rebook or you can email us for assistance

I haven't recieved my sitter introduction email yet, am I still getting a sitter?

Yes, if you recieved a booking confirmation, you will be assigned a sitter. We generally send out sitter introductions between 12-24 hours prior to your booking unless your booking was last minute, in which case we will send as soon as we assign you a sitter. If you have not yet recieved your intro email, check your junk mail. If it isn't there, email us and we will resend it to you. If you did not get any notifications from us after you booked, you may have mispelled your email address in your original booking


How does Big White Sitters work?

As one of our sitters you have the ultimate flexibilty to pick and choose the bookings that best meet your interests and availability. You work from our app on your mobile phone, where you will recieve notifications of new bookings that are available. Once you are scheduled, we will send you reminders of your start time and client details. When you arrive for work, you capture your start and end time through our app. We collect payment from clients on your behalf and e-transfer the funds to your Canadian financial institution on a weekly basis. Easy!

What are the requirements to be a sitter with Big White Sitters?

At a minimum, sitters must be over the age of 19; have 3 years of childcare experience; have previous first aid training; have a clear criminal record check completed within the past 6 months; have a clear background check completed within the last 24 months; are eligible to work with children; are eligible to work in Canada; and, have a mobile phone with a data plan. Can I work with Big White Sitters at other ski resorts?

Stay tuned! We are planning to expand into other Canadian ski resorts by winter 2020

Do you only want female sitters?

How do you keep track of sitters?

When you leave for your shift, you click a button on the mobile app that let's us know you are on your way. When you arrive at the clients location, you clock into your mobile app with a selfie and which notifies us you have arrived safely, and provides us with your your gps location. When you clock out, the same thing applies. This process allows us to know you have arrived and left safely.
